Five Mistakes That Could Make Your Dumpster Rental Cost More Than You're Expecting

A dumpster rental is an affordable and convenient way to dispose of waste on a worksite. However, dumpster renters sometimes make simple mistakes that unnecessarily increase the costs of the rental and the waste disposal needs that go along with the job.

You can make sure that your dumpster rental costs are minimized by avoiding the following five mistakes:

Not minimizing the amount of time you're renting for

Dumpster rentals are typically paid for depending on how long they last. The faster you finish with your dumpster, the less you'll have to pay.

If you can make your work as efficient and productive as possible, you my be able to cut down on the rental time and, thereby, save some money.

Renting a dumpster that's too big for your needs

You're also going to be charged for your rental depending on how large the dumpster you rent is. Take measurements, and make as accurate a guess as you can on how much dumpster space you'll need to dispose of all of your waste.

Putting items in your dumpster that are not allowed or cost extra to dispose of

You need to make sure you don't dispose of toxic waste in your dumpster or items that require a special type of disposal. Otherwise, you might be subject to penalties and extra charges.

Be sure to discuss all the items you're needing to dispose of with the dumpster rental company beforehand, to make sure that you're not putting anything in the dumpster that isn't permitted.

Extending your rental time period after the dumpster has already been dropped off

If you have to add extra days on to your rental period after you're already using the rental, you might have to pay more than you would if you had just chosen a longer rental period to begin with.

Make sure you'll be able to finish all the required work in the allotted time before you choose how long you want to rent for.

Causing the drop-off or pick-up of the rented dumpster to take extra time

The longer your dumpster service has to wait around while dropping off or picking up the dumpster, the more it is likely to cost you. You can minimize costs by making sure you're prepared in advance.

Plan out where you're going to place the dumpster, and clear a space before the rental arrives. Also, when the service arrives to pick up the dumpster, make sure there's no work going on at your worksite that could interfere with transporting the dumpster off-site.
